Karma: Why the Law of Attraction Didn't Work for You

I have studied the law of attraction, spirituality, ancient teachings, philosophies, religions and esoteric texts for over 14 years, and I have one fundamental problem with the law of attraction….and that is Karma.

How many of us have attracted the million dollar mansion, the Ferrari, the private airplane etc, by visualising it and simply taking inspired action? I know hundreds of individuals who have created their vision boards, packed full of dream homes, cars and expensive items that they think they want to attain yet, these items continue to elude them, why?

I believe that before we incarnate here in this life, we choose what it is we really want to accomplish here. We are here to learn something.

I believe that we choose the best possible scenario to be born into in order for us to have the greatest chance of achieving our goal, beit our parents, country etc. Perhaps you have come to learn about forgiveness, so you incarnate into a family where you will have the opportunity to forgive. Or perhaps you have come here to learn about empathy, so you incarnate into a family where you will have the opportunity to serve the less fortunate. I believe it is all predetermined. Yes we have free will, but the overall reason for us to be here is to achieve something.

As we incarnate into this life, we forget who we really are, and who we once were in previous lives. If we were to remember everything we wouldn't be able to cope with the memories due to our limited human mind.

So, how do you know that in a past life you weren't a murderer? Or you had stolen something you shouldn't have? This is where karma comes into play. While we do not remember our past lives, our Karma stays with us in each incarnation we have.

Have you ever felt like you’ve worked so very hard on something but still you haven't achieved it? I know I have. I started a business that I thought I really wanted to do, and for almost 5 years I was stressed and absolutely nothing worked for me. I didn't make a penny. The company grew and grew and grew, but the problems did too. Everyday felt like hell on earth, and I didn't see a way out. I had let my ego get the better of me. I have always known why I am here, but I let myself fall into my ego’s trap.

Our past Karma, in my opinion, holds us back from visualising and attracting what we think we want here in this life.

Becoming a millionaire may not be in your life plan. Becoming a business owner may not be in your life plan. It’s all ok.

So, what can we do about it?

1. Do some soul searching. If you could do or be anything, what would you be? What really excites you? What are you passionate about? Make sure to park the ego and critical mind. Oprah Winfrey had a dream to make a living speaking to people which to some may sound silly, but now she is one of the most successful women in the world!

2. Try to remove yourself from the physical plane. Try not to fixate on money cars, and houses only. If you could do anything what would it be?

3. Don't plan too much, but start to take small steps every day towards your goal. Then after a while you will realise that opportunities, and synchronicities will begin appearing in your life. This is how you will know you are on the right path.

4. The most important point is to make efforts to clear past Karma. Spend time meditating, it only needs to be for a few minutes a day, where you ask the source for forgiveness. I usually say something like “Holy father creator of the universe, please forgive me for my sins in this life and in my past lives. I am truly sorry for any pain I have caused anyone throughout my existence. I will forgive all those who have hurt me and shall now approach all living things with love, compassion and an open heart, including those who had previously hurt me. I release all bitter feelings, grudges, and negative thoughts. Thank you for your love and compassion”. Then make sure that you actually put this statement into practise every day. Offer everyone your benevolence.
